I remember at the beginning of my career I felt inspired, lost,
hopeful burned-out all at the same time. I often felt confused
and frustrated because there were so many things about teaching
that I just didn’t feel prepared for.
Classroom management? This was nothing like student teaching!
Assessments? I only had a few that I felt comfortable with.
Advocacy? I didn’t understand why I constantly had to defend
my subject!
And forget about taking care of myself! After school I would stuff my face with the closest snack foods and then sleep so I could get through another day! Before long, I started questioning my abilities to be a good teacher (and all of my life choices that led me to this career!) However (spoiler alert!) I didn’t leave teaching and it has been an incredible journey of learning and growing. So this book is a nod to my younger self and for you who might be feeling the same things that I once did.
A Place in the Staff will give you more tools in your toolbox to help you through the challenges that will come your way. Teaching is a long journey of constant learning. Most of the first few years is about trial by fire, but it’s what happens after the fire that separates the mediocre teachers from the great ones. You’ve got what it takes to be the teacher you want to be, and I want to help! Get your copy HERE
